Salak Khok Bay (Aow Salak
Khok) is situated in the southern half of
Koh Changs east coast. The bay is approximately
1 kilometres wide, up to 2 kilometres long and only
connected to the sea by a narrow passage. It is
very flat and completely scattered with islands
of mangroves.
It is one of the best-preserved mangrove-forests
in the whole of Thailand.
The quiet fishing village Salak Khok (Baan
Salak Khok), located at the southern edge
of the bay, is built, to a large extent, on stakes
into the bay and many of the houses are connected
with small timber bridges. |
Arrival/Departure:
By boat from Laem-Ngop-Pier either at 1.00 pm to
Dan-May-Pier or at 2.00 pm to Than-Mayom-Pier and
then onward by taxi.
If coming by motorbike you must turn left at the
intersection of the main street, which is 14 kilometres
south of Dan-Kao-Pier. After nearly a kilometre
the road forks just after you have crossed a small
river.
The left road goes to Baan Salak Khok, while the
right leads to the south to Baan Chek Bae and to
far more distant villages and beaches.
The departure times of the taxis to Dan-Kao-Pier
are subject to seasonal change, so check in advance. |
