Long Beach (Haad Sai Yao)
at the south-easternmost end of Koh Chang, is a
beautiful sand beach approximately 500 metres long.
It is flat, recedes at low tide about 50-100 metres,
but however always very well suitable for swimming.
In April 2002 there was no accommodation, only an
expired Bungalow-Resort points to earlier business.
At the southernmost end of the island, after 10
- 15 minutes walk one reaches a small beach with
inscribed tablets, which refer to the history regarding
sunken warships (see 'Sights',
'Sea-battle-wrecks'). |
Arrival
& Departure:
Either with a chartered boat from Salak Phet Bay,
or if coming by motorbike you must turn left at
the intersection of the main street, which is 14
kilometres south of Dan-Kao-Pier. After nearly a
kilometre the road forks just after you have crossed
a small river. The left road goes to Baan
Salak Khok, while the right leads to the
south to Baan Chek Bae
and to Long-beach.
The last 15 minutes you have to walk, but a small
jungle track to the sunken warships is to be completed
by the end of 2002. So getting to Long Beach should
be possible by motorbike. |
