| The east coast of Koh Chang is the least developed
part of the island. But, due to lengthening of the
road, tourism is slowly entering. The coast is very
flat and partly overgrown with mangroves. The accessible
spots are to a large extent stony, but there are
also small, sandy beaches. |
 |
 |
At low tide when there
is less water big sections of the shore turn into
swampy bays. Those who drive along the road to Baan
Salak Khok, to Salak Phet Bay or to Long
Beach, will appreciate the beauty of this less explored
section of the island. All villages along the coast
are located at the road, only the 2 southernmost,
Baan Khlong Rakam and
Baan Khlong Hin Kong,
can be reached by boat. |
On the east coast you
find Koh Chang´s only hospital, directly on
the road at Baan Khlong Nonsi,
6 kilometres from the Dan-Kao-Pier in the southern
direction. Opening-hours: Mon - Fri from 8.30 -
16.30, there are 2 English-speaking doctors in the
hospital. Saturday and Sunday it is only open for
emergencies. Tel. 039/58 61 31, 039/58 61 21.
The headquarters of the police is situated 600 metres
south of the hospital and can be contacted by telephone
on 039/58 61 91 or 039/58 61 20.
(See 'Ko-Chang-Information',
'Medical-Care & Security'.) |
| If coming by motorbike
you must turn left at the intersection of the main
street, which is 14 kilometres south of Dan-Kao-Pier.
After nearly a kilometre the road forks just after
you have crossed a small river. The left road goes
to Baan Salak Khok,
while the right leads to the south to Baan
Chek Bae and to far more distant villages
and beaches. |
| The departure times
of the taxis to Dan-Kao-Pier are subject to seasonal
change, so check in advance. |
| Only in Baan
Salak Khok and at the southern end of the
island, behind Baan Chek Bae
in Salak Phet Bay, accommodation is available. Tents
can be rented at the National-Marine-Park-Headquarters,
which is also the starting point for a visit to
Than Mayom Waterfalls (see 'Sights',
'National-Marine-Park'). |
